In the Santa Cruz Mountains, winding along the San Lorenzo River are the beautiful rural and wooded communities of the San Lorenzo Valley. Comprised of the towns of Boulder Creek, Brookdale, Ben Lomond, and Felton, The San Lorenzo Valley was once a logging industry center of California, especially during the rebuilding of San Francisco after the 1906 earthquake. Much of the river valley is now residential neighborhoods, schools, and downtown shopping areas. At its northern end, it abuts Big Basin Redwoods State Park and Castle Rock State Park; toward the southern end is Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park. There is endless recreation including hiking, river swimming, mountain biking, and the Roaring Camp Railroad.
